Short Programs Department of Government, Georgetown University

The Department of Government organizes or co-organizes numerous short programs and workshops—one day to six weeks in duration—for a variety of domestic and international clients including the U.S. Department of State, foreign universities and other national and local governments. The department often partners with Georgetown University offices such as the Center for Intercultural Education and Development (CIED) and the School for Continuing Studies (SCS). We also utilize many of the university’s other academic and intellectual resources and have worked with individuals from the Georgetown Public Policy Institute (GPPI), the Walsh School of Foreign Service, the Security Studies Program, the McDonough School of Business, the Institute for the Study of International Migration (ISIM)—among others.

Department of Government short programs combine three of Georgetown University’s unique strengths: world-class faculty experts; access to government and non-governmental practitioners in and around Washington DC; and our Jesuit heritage of learning and service. The department provides academic design and content: lectures, seminars, leadership and policy workshops, field and site visits, briefings with policy practitioners, and participant assessment. Our university partners provide logistic, legal and administrative support. In addition to bringing practitioners to campus, we set up site visits with governmental agencies (Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Reserve), Congress, think tanks (Brookings, Carnegie, CSIS, the German Marshall Fund of the United States) and non-governmental institutions (Transparency International, Ashoka International, the DNC and RNC).
