Msgr. Robert Sokolowski Will Receive Fourth Annual Schall Award
The Tocqueville Forum is pleased to announce that Msgr. Robert Sokolowski will be the recipient of the fourth annual Rev. James V. Schall, S.J. Award for Teaching and Humane Letters. This award, generously supported by Michael Maibach – a former student of Father Schall – and The Maibach Fund, has been created to honor individuals who exemplify the excellence, scholarly breadth, and impact of Father James V. Schall, S.J., Professor of Government at Georgetown University. The Award is conferred annually upon an individual who shares Father Schall’s commitment to liberal education, the great books, and the philosophical and religious traditions of the West.
Msgr. Robert Sokolowski, Ph.D., is the Elizabeth Breckenridge Caldwell Professor of Philosophy at The Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. Ordained a Roman Catholic priest in 1962, he has been widely honored for his work in philosophy, particularly in phenomenology. Msgr. Sokolowski was chosen to receive the award due to his distinction in scholarship and excellence in teaching. Fr. Schall and he have been friends for many years. In conjunction with the Award ceremony, Msgr. Sokolowski will give a lecture, which will be given on Thursday, April 28th, 2011 at Georgetown University.
