Graduate Fellow Brian Smith to speak at Ethics and Public Policy Center

On Thursday, April 3rd, Tocqueville Forum Graduate Fellow Brian Smith will present a lecture entitled "Adam Smith and the Culture of Enterprise" as part of a conference for the winners of the Templeton Enterprise Awards. Hosted by the Ethics and Public Policy Center in Washington, D.C., this awards conference focuses on the issue of what a "culture of enterprise" should be in an age of globalization.

It promises to be an interesting discussion, with the top two winners in the book category (Yeshiva University's Jim Otteson and Sam Gregg of the Acton Institute) and both the article awards (Smith and Gerson Moreno-Riano of Regent University) giving presentations on the cultural preconditions for a decent commercial society. EPPC's John Mueller will be chairing the book award panel and Prof. Andrew Abela of Catholic University will comment on the article award winners.

The conference opens with a light breakfast at 8:30 am and concludes with lunch after a final panel discussion at 12 pm. More information about the conference can be found here. To register for this event, please send an e-mail with your name and affiliation to events@eppc.org or call 202-715-3515.

"Freedom sees religion as the companion of its struggles and triumphs, the cradle of its infancy, and the divine source of its rights. Religion is considered as the guardian of mores, and mores are regarded as the guarantee of laws..."
