First Schall Award Lecture Now Available
The inaugural Rev. James V. Schall Award Lecture - delivered on April 10, 2008 by Prof. Ralph McInerny of the University of Notre Dame - is now available on the Tocqueville Forum website. In his ranging and witty lecture, Prof. McInerny explores the meaning of liberal education, the paucity of the "research" model regnant in today's elite universities, and explores the contributions of Father Schall in particular to our understanding of philosophy, theology, and politics. He calls Fr. Schall "the Chesterton of our times."
"Democracy and socialism have nothing in common but one word, equality. But notice the difference: while democracy seeks equality in liberty, socialism seeks equality in restraint and servitude."
