The Chinese Electoral Framework Project
CEFP is a project focused on the issues surrounding local elections in China. The Project gathers and assesses relevant information on elections while following trends in China’s experiment in democratic governance. Through academic articles, news, and official documents, the Chinese Electoral Framework Project serves as a hub of information for those interested in electoral issues, policies, and procedures.
The information provided in this site is by no means exhaustive, but it will provide documentation and analysis of the legal framework and history on electoral policy and practice in China, a description of the institutions and practices required for the election process and a context to assess the freeness and fairness of the electoral process. Additionally, this site will provide links to relevant articles, guides and policy tools that may be helpful not only in understanding elections in China, but in other parts of the world as well.
