Student Experience
Students in the Democracy & Governance Program at Georgetown University are encouraged to take advantage of the number of opportunities within our program for both personal enrichment and professional development.
International Study Trip
Each year, our program plans an experiential learning trip to promote a discussion surrounding the current challenges of democratic governments. Students are able to immerse themselves in their studies by engaging in active dialogue with international representatives from academia, civil society, and the public and private sector. Past trips include: Tunisia, Bulgaria, and Northern Ireland.
Professional Development
Our program partners with several organizations to help train future leaders in the fields of democracy, human rights, and governance. Throughout the year, we offer a wide array of programming that allows our students to network with and learn from current executives at organizations like USAID, National Democratic Institute (NDI), International Republican Institute (IRI), and many more. Given our prime location in the D.C. area, our students are positioned for numerous internship opportunities that allow them to gain critical hands-on experience. To learn more about other professional development opportunities and to see where our students are currently employed, please visit our Careers Page.
Program Events
From socials to academic lectures, we plan and host a variety of events to build lasting relationships among cohorts and to hear perspectives and critical issues from leading industry professionals. To stay up-to-date on our current events, please visit our Events Page.
Student Employment
Each academic year, depending on availability, our program hires graduate student workers to assist with our programming and events. Past positions include: Democracy & Society Editors, Webmaster, Program Assistant.
